Underwater world. A underwater fantasy world in the making.
Ever since I have seen this underwater boat in Cartagena, Spain I am dreaming of an under water composition in which this submarine in it. The look of this underwater vehicle inspires me to work on a new image. Maybe a little bit like my series „Imaginäre Künstleratelier“. A composition within a composition. To me this early submarine „Peral“, build by the Spanish engineer and sailor Isaac Peral, is as if she was build after an illustration of Jules Verne „Nautilus“. Peral was named after her builder, was launched in 1888 as an electric powered submarine. Pretty impressive for this time I think. I spent an afternoon in the Cartagena Naval Museum taking pictures of this old submarine from all different angles. She sits there in her full glory after being restored to her original condition. It is like traveling back in time. Cartagena has a proud seafaring history over the centuries. It was a major port with a large shipbuilding industry. Today the submarine Peral is something like the towns landmark, reminding of it proud maritim history. I can already see this submarine cruising in my imagination thru a vital marine underwater environment in a new composition of picture that I have in mind. Hopefully I will be able to end up telling the story. In the meantime I am collecting impressions in my fantasy. As my reminder or some sort of work sheet, I made me this collage above.
